King Odin's Wisdom (Class 12 Opt. English)

Cost of Wisdom: The God King (King Odin's Wisdom)
- Norse Mythology
Summary:
"King Odin's Wisdom" is a Norse myth (Norse mythology is a set of beliefs and stories shared by Northern Germanic tribes). The story tells the story of the King Odin and how he became the wisest of all the gods. At the beginning of the story, Odin is seeking wisdom and knowledge from the wise giant, Mimir (a figure in Norse mythology, renowned for his knowledge and wisdom) (He lived by a well that stood beneath one of the roots of Yggdrasill, the world tree.) They are going to Jotunheim (the world of giants) and on the way Odin proves his wisdom and intelligence by winning a contest against the giant, who challenges him a game of riddles (puzzling questions). In the contest, the giant asks Odin many difficult riddles, but Odin becomes successful to give all the answers correctly. Finally, the giant tells Odin that if he really wants to gain his wisdom, he has to sacrifice his right eye in his well. Finally, Odin sacrifices his right eye and gains knowledge and wisdom that he is seeking.
The story shows the importance of wisdom and knowledge and the sacrifice that a person must take to gain them. It also emphasizes the power of intelligence and the ability to overcome a person’s challenger. Overall, the story teaches the importance of searching knowledge and using a person’s intelligence to solve problems and defeat challenges.
