Important Questions Answers of the Story About Love-Class 12

Q) How did Alyohin define love?
Alyohin’s concept of love is defined by his own love experience. But he doesn’t provide concrete definition of love. According to him, love is a firm union of two souls. It is also a boon of God. Love, the sweet gift of God is great mystery to Aloyhin. For him, love is a mysterious flexible thing, and he defines it as an unlimited and unrestricted thing in the world which crosses every step of boundaries.

Q) Sketch the character of Luganovich.
Luganovich, Anna’s husband is a simple and gentle man. He is a Vice-President of Circuit Court. He is a man of prestige. He is forty years old man, who marries a beautiful girl of twenty. Though Luganovich knows his wife has love relation with Aloyhin, he is not suspicious of  her. He never tries to know what goes in Anna’s mind. His negative aspect is that he doesn’t show any interest in recreation, and that is the thing that his young wife needs. He is a reserved type of a person, and he talks with others whenever needed. In short, he is good natured, simple and selfless.

Q) What kinds of love experiences are suggested by Alyohin in ‘About Love?’
In the story, Alyohin has suggested three different love experiences: the love affair between two servants Nikarnor and Palegeya, the love affair between Alyohin himself and a university girl and the love affair between Alyohin himself and the wife of Luganovich, Anna. The first love affair between Nikarnor and Pelageya is immoral and uncivilized because their love is based on physical pleasure only. They are not serious in their relationship. They even don’t think about their society, future and morality. They have the relationship only for fulfilling their physical desires. Their love is not true and pure because they misuse their relationship. Similarly, the second love relation between Alyohin and a university girl is also false. This love is materialistic love from the side of the girl because all time the girl is interested in Alyohin’s money than his heart. So, this love affair is also proved to be selfish love. Unlike the two relationships, the love between Alyohin and Anna is moral and civilized. Although they are in their relationship, they don’t misuse their love because they think about their future, society and norms and values. Their love is spiritual because they are practical and responsible in their relationship. Their love is proved to be true and pure although their love is not attainable.
