On a sunny day, a little fly is enjoying warm weather flying here and there, but the fly’s enjoyment irritates the poet. So, without thinking, he kills the fly with his hand. In fact, he does have not any intention to kill it. But after killing it, he starts regretting for his cruelty. He feels that his act is sinful because he has killed the innocent fly, which has short life. He also feels that the fly is like him, and it has its life similar to him, but he has stopped its life. He also says that like the fly he sings, dances and drinks. After this, he compares this incident to men’s death. He thinks that everyone’s death is certain , but no one knows when death occurs. In the poem, the poet shows difference between men and a fly. According to him, men are different from a fly because they have thought. He says that thought is good as well as bad for men. If men have thought of life, they become strong, but if they have thought of death, they suffer, fear and run away from their death. So, he advises men to live life happily without thinking about future like the fly. The poem ends with a universal message that if we stop thinking about our death, we can live our everyday life happily.
