Yudhisthira's Wisdom Four Levels B.A. First Year (With Video)

Yudhisthira's wisdom (Shanta R. Rao's adaptation)

Literal comprehension: The ancient tale Yudhisthira's Wisdom by Shanta Rao extracted from the epic Mahabharat is a story about the exile life of five Pandav brothers. This tale tells us the importance of being obedient patient and righteous in our lives to defeat our problems and obstacles.
After the exile, the five pandavas Yudhisthira, Shahadeva, Nakula, Bhima and Arjuna were wandering in a forest for hunting a deer. It was very hot there, so they were very thirsty and tired. Due to the extreme hot and thirst, Yudhisthira, the eldest brother sent his youngest brother Sahadeva in search of water. Even after a long time, he didn't return. After that Yudhisthira sent Nakula, but unfortunately he didn't return. Then Yudhisthira's sent his other remaining brothers one by one. But nobody returned there either. Finally, Yudhisthira himself went in search of his brothers. Unluckily, he found them lying unconscious at the bank of a fond. After seeing them, he became very unhappy and started crying. Anyway, at first he wanted to quench his thirst. As he was about to drink water, he heard a -voice coming from somewhere there and that voice warned him to not to drink water before giving answers to his questions. Yudhisthira was told there that the voice was of God Yaksha. He also knew that his all brothers were punished because they had ignored his admonition. Thus, he became ready to give the answers to Yaksha's questions. He gave the answers obediently, patiently and rationally. Yaksha being pleased with his obedience he wanted to revive one of his brothers. On that choice, he requested Yaksha to revive the life of Nakula, a son of his step mother Madri. Again being pleased and impressed with Yudhisthira, Yakisha revealed him as Yama, the God of justice and dead. Then he restored his all brothers and also promised to help them in their future needs and problems

Interpretation: This ancient tale may be trying to tell us about the importance of patience, obedience, wisdom, righteousness and selflessness. It highlights the concept that if we use our conscience properly, we can face and defeat any problems in our lives. Though Yudhisthira's brothers were very brave, they couldn't use their conscience. As a result, they faced the problem and suffered too. But at last with the proper use of patience, obedience and wisdom, Yudhisthira became able to give a new lives to his brothers. with this context, it tries to teach us that patience, obedience, selflessness and rationality contribute us a lot in our lives.

Critical Thinking: Though the story is philosophical, interesting and inspiring, there are some unconvincing ideas and events in the story. So, we can raise some questions regarding them. They are:
- Does a god really exist?
- Has any one ever seen a god talking like a man?
- Can it be passible to make men alive after death?
- Is it true that courage is the best weapon against all kinds of dangers?

Assimilation: After reading this religious and philosophical story,  I came to know that patience is a great virtue and power. So, we shouldn't loose our patience in any crisis of our lives. I also realized that obedience, wisdom and righteousness are our real friends, so they help us in every step of our lives.
