Types of Brochures (Types by Format)

A well-designed brochure is the best way to reach a large audience for advertising our products or services. Despite various uses for the different types of brochures, its creativity and utilization can be disappointing due to our limited thinking and knowledge. Different folds have different uses and could deliver a more attractive story or carry better informational value. Brochures are usually based on how they are folded and there are at least six types:

-             Gate Fold Brochures

-        Bi-Fold Brochures

-        Tri-Fold Brochures

-        Flyers or Leaflets

-        Folders and Insert Brochures

-        Z-Fold Brochures

1) Gate Fold Brochures: This type of brochure is in a gate-shape with eight panels, and it is mostly used in high-end marketing and is made of premium quality paper making it extremely durable. The standard brochure size for the gate fold is 8.5” x 11”. Its unique feature inward folding makes it very compact and easy to carry around.

There is the front cover, back cover and two internal panels where we can present all the information about our company, brand and products.

3) Tri-Fold Brochures: This type of brochure has three folds and usually measures 8.5” x 11” flat with six panels. It has enough space to display information. This type of brochure is the most common one that is used by small to large businesses.

4) Flyers/Leaflets: Flyers or leaflets brochures are usually single page brochures with the size of 8.5”x11”. They are a bit different from the other types of brochures and are mainly used for targeting a really large number of people. They are very common for promotional campaign.

5) Folders and Insert Brochures: This type of brochure has a fantastic feature of folders within the brochure with the size of 9”x12”. We can make use of the folder by placing feedback form, some kind of free coupon, etc. These are also used for gaining attention.

6) Z-Fold Brochures: This brochure folds like letter ‘Z’ shape with the size of 8.5”x11”, 8.5”x14, 11”x17” or 11”x25.5”. It is also known as Zigzag fold. It is easy to carry around and ideal to show lists, user guides and technical specifications among others. It gives an extravagant looks to the brochure. This brochure is mainly used for large graphs, maps, food menus, product details, or any image-heavy design.
