Format and Guidelines
Guidelines:
- The content of a press release must be newsworthy, timely, important and interesting.
- It must be direct, factual and informative like the style of journalistic writing.
- The headline of a press release must be catchy, short and sharp.
- Avoid using very long sentences and paragraphs.
Format
1. Head- The name, logo and address of an organization followed by the phrase ‘Press Release’ centred on the top margin.
2. Contact Information: You can put your contact information either in the left margin just below the logo or after the body. You need to put your name first, then your contact number and then your email id.
3. Release date- If you wish to put a release date you can put that in the left margin below the logo. Depending on the timing and situation, you can write the phrase ‘For Immediate Release’.
4. Headline- The headline of a press release.
5. Deck- Sub header can be put just below the headline. (If you want, you want mention this too.)
6. Dateline - The date the press release is to be published. The first paragraph of a press release begins with the name of the place and date separated by a dash.
7. Opening paragraph- The first paragraph should answer the most important questions who, what, where, when and how.
8. Remaining section- This section explains the main theme or central idea of a press release. In this section, relevant images, graphics and even video clips can be included. If a press release is sent in a digital format, links to relevant web pages and other media content can provided.
9. Boilerplate- The final paragraph of a press release that provides background information about an organization. (Not compulsory)
10. End notation- End your press release with three hashes in the bottom centre of your press release. But if there is another page then write ‘More…’
11. Final Note- After a press release is completed, add contact information such as an email or phone number. The notation sentence may begin as ‘For additional information, contact us, etc.

Suppose you are the General Manger of Nepal Airlines. Issue a press release on behalf of the airlines about the cancellation of flights to the mountain regions due to the poor weather condition.

Nepali Airlines Corporation apologizes to its passengers for this interruption of service and inconvenience caused to them. The Airlines urges all the stakeholders to understand the reason behind the cancellation and restates that it is very serious about the safety of its passengers. (Remaining Section)
