Forms of Technical Communication
In the context of technical communication, with the advancement of new technologies and the increasing need for diverse type of information, the form of technical communication in workplace, academic world, business fields and professional fields has become extensive. Generally, technical communication has two types: oral and written. Oral form of technical communication offers a sense of immediacy, personal connection, informal touch, flexibility, high level of transparency, spontaneous feedback, receptivity and interactivity. It is also time-saving, effective in resolving problems and suitable for group work and private interactions. Oral communication primarily includes presentations, instructions, seminars, telephone talks, audio, interviews, video-conferences, etc. On the other hand, it has also disadvantages because this form of communication is less authentic because no records are maintained, and messages can be long and vague.
Similarly, written form of technical communication is good for emphasis, evidence, record and reference. It primarily includes reports, forms, memos, emails, manuals, proposals, brochures, business letter, resumes, etc. This form of technical communication is mostly used because it is more structured, precise, clear and permanent. It also leaves less space for misunderstanding, allows for clarification and sounds formal. Besides, it saves time for many people, and it is reliable for lengthy content and data. Other the hand, it has also disadvantages because it is costly in production and delivery, impersonal and non-spontaneous.
