The Bull (Important Long Questions)(Class 12 Com. English)

The Bull (Important Long Questions)

Q) Write down the plot of the play in a paragraph.

The play "The Bull' written by a famous Nepali poet and dramatist Bhimnidhi Tiwari is mainly about the feudal system (सामन्ती प्रथा) of 18th century's Nepali society. The play centres (केन्द्रित) on the death of the King Ranabahadur Shah's bull named Male and the painful condition of the the bull's doctor Laxminarayan the two cowherds Jitman and Gore.

The King Ranabahadur loves bulls, so he raises (हुर्काउछन) many bulls. Once, the bull named (नाम गरेको) Male dies. Then the cowherds and the bull doctor are frightened because of the king's possible punishment. After its death, they pretends (बहाना गर्छन्) to be sad and mourn (शोक गर्छन्) at the death of the bull. In fact, they are not sad at the bull's death rather they are afraid of the king's possible punishment. For saving their life, they weeps (रुन्छन्) and pretends to be sad in front of the king. Then the king gives them tips seeing them crying. Finally, the cowherds are happy to be alive.

Q) How does the play make a satire on the feudal system?
The drama shows the dehumanisation (अमानवियकरण) and oppression (थिचोमिचो) of feudal rulers on their workers or people. Through the play, it shows that people did not have any value, respect, and care even like animals. It even shows that common people lived in terror (आतंक) because they were living on their masters’ kindness (दया) and grace (कृपा). Though they were humans, they were not treated even like animals. The play shows that the king’s animal got more facilities than people, and it lived better live than people. In fact, the feudal system had suppressed (थिचोमिचो गर्थ्यो), dominated (दमन गर्थ्यो), and dehumanised (अमानविय व्यवहार गर्थ्यो) them. In this way, the play makes a satire (व्यंग्य) on the feudal system.
