Brief Summary:
The poem is an extract taken from Shakespeare’s drama ‘The Tempest’, Act 1; scene 2.The whole poem is description of the condition of a dead person. Here, the spirit of Ariel sings a song to Ferdinand, the Prince of Naples, who thinks his father is drowned and has meaningless death. Ariel says that every part of the dead body of his father has been changed into something valuable. Ariel tells Ferdinand that his father’s body is laid full thirty feet deep below surface of the sea. But his bones have been changed into coral and eyes have been changed into pearls. According to him, no part of his father’s body is decayed and rotten. He also says that nymphs welcome and honour his father by ringing death bell every hour.
In this short musical poem, the poet has expressed his views on life after death. He believes that death is an entrance into permanent spiritual life, which is more beautiful than the physical existence. More, he adds that death is not the end of life, and it cannot destroy the name and fame of any person.
