The essay is from the perspective of a husband, so it clearly presents the real mentality of husbands towards their wives, their identity, their roles and their position. According to the writer, one of her male friends is recently divorce, and he wants to keep a wife. After knowing his desire, the writer even being a female wants to keep a wife. Then she starts making a long list of chores (household tasks) that all wives do. She says that wives are husbands' company, who fulfil their all desires, demands and solve all familial problems. Wives are taken as unpaid servants, and husbands want to make them their 'Yes-Men’. She even says that wives are taken as working machines as well as weaker and inferior sex. Finally, being emotional she says if the wife keeping is such a luxury, anyone wants to keep a wife. By providing such list of the description, the writer wants to inform all the readers about the real definition of wives. Besides, there is another hidden message in the essay that the writer wants to convey. She says that if wives are dominated, exploited and discriminated like this, it would be difficult to find wives. Thus, at last she says that no women would like to be conventional wives in future if they are taken as tools or playthings or sex dolls.
