Guidelines and Instructions
A brochure is an important promotional tool, and sometimes it can also serve as a tool to convey instructional materials. But manuals, guidelines and instructions have an expanding area of business communication. Besides these, there are several terms used to indicate guidelines and instructions, and they are often used interchangeably.
Manual
A manual, which can be handled easily, is a small book that gives information or instruction about a product. It is usually larger than a guide. It can be said that a manual is something more complete. A manual is written in book format and is more formal than a guide.
Primer
A Primer is a small introductory book on any subject. It serves as a first means of instructions.
Vade
Mecum (Latin Term)
Vade Mecum is a pocket manual or handbook. It is a type of reference work or other collection of instructions, which is intended to provide ready reference.
Instructions
Instructions are mainly associated with instruction or teaching. Hence, instructions are given to teach somebody something. It’s also the act or practice of instructing or teaching. Usually, instructions are used for orders or directions. Mainly, it is the act of furnishing with authoritative directions.
Guideline
A guideline is information that is intended to advise people on how something should be done
or what something should be. It is very detailed, complete and specific
