The poem ‘Every Morning I Wake’ written by the poet Dylan Thomas is the about the praise and greatness of God. In the poem, the poet prays to God to show love and mercy on ordinary human beings living on this planet.
The poet says that he is a representative character of human beings, who is born to die. But God is immortal. He is omniscient, omnipotent and omnipresent. As a real worshipper of God, he knows His (God's) power. So, when he wakes up every morning, he prays to God and pleads Him (God) for showing mercy on all creatures. He says that human beings pray to God for their self-interests, benefits and welfare only, but he prays to Him for the welfare of all creatures. He adds that all creatures are living on this planet, but everything is controlled by Him. More, the he poet believes that God is the creator and destroyer of everything on this planet. In this regard, he says that we human beings have to die sooner or later, but the blessings of God make our life beautiful and colourful. So, he prays to God before he sleeps at night and also thanks Him for making his days beautiful because he is not certain if he will be alive tomorrow morning. In addition, he says that we human beings may be good or bad in the course of our life journey, but it is God who knows our reality and evaluates our virtues and evils. At last, he says that any creatures can’t control and decide their life, future and deeds because God is handling everything using His power and rule. Finally, the poem ends with the poet’s request that human beings should worship and respect God for His greatness and also for His love, care and protection towards human beings.
